LG Smart TV Picture Problems: Possible Causes

LG smart TVs are usually durable, as such, if you happen to be having picture problems you most likely have been doing something wrong, or your TV set has developed a serious fault, especially if you’ve been using it for a long time.

  • Bad HDMI Cable/Port

In most cases, especially if you’ve been using your device for a while, this would be your problem. It usually occurs when you have bad cable management coupled with a low-quality cable that gets to develop faults over time. You can easily solve this issue by replacing the HDMI cable with a new one.

While that’s the case, your device can also experience the same fault signatures when the HDMI port connecting the TV to a TV Box/decoder is bad. You can often experience it when the cables are moved slightly. If this is your problem, you may need to take it to a certified LG technician to have a look.

  • Power Supply

While this may come as a surprise to some, it’s a real thing; no sufficient power supply can lead to your TV having multiple issues. Power issues can often result in issues like image retention when traces of an image are burned to a screen for an extended period, inconsistent coloring, and even false contouring or posterization.

  • Outdated Firmware

Often related to posterization and HDMI cable compatibility; LG has consistently looked for ways to update their TV’s firmware such that it doesn’t experience the issue. If you happen to haven’t updated your firmware yet, it could be the reason why you’re still having picture problems.

  • Wrong Picture Settings

It’s so often the case with new users, they make some custom settings which in some scenarios is perfect but isn’t always effective in others. In this case, you’ll need to do a complete reset or readjust the TV picture settings to suit the current environment.

  • Hardware Problems

Sometimes, it’s possible that your problem is caused by an issue from the factory. It’s usually the case with some devices, such that even though you do the right setup, the picture problem still arises. You’ll need to get a replacement if you bought from a vendor that offers a warranty.

LG Smart TV Picture Problems: How to Fix

Luckily, a lot of the causes of picture problems on LG smart TVs can be fixed by simple troubleshooting methods. At the same time, if your case requires more advanced techniques, you’ll be better off activating your warranty package or at least, sending it to a certified LG TV technician.

  • Power Cycle the TV

In most cases where your picture problem was caused by a power supply or wrong picture settings, the easiest solution is to power cycle the device. This method can also help in solving image burning and false contouring issues.

All you need do is plug out the power cable from your socket, wait for about 5 minutes, and plug it back in. If your case isn’t too complicated, your system should return to normal when it boots up.
